ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Ascension Parish Council voted to remove Parish President Clint Cointment from the drainage projects board.

The removal happened Monday night during an ’emergency meeting’ for the drainage board.

During the meeting, majority of the public present were opposed to removing the parish president.

People argued, Cointment is the right person for the job considering his background and track record of success within the parish.

Despite the public’s outcry not to remove him, six council members made the decision that led to many people including Cointment to walk out.

Aaron Lawler, John Cagnnolatti, Teri Casso, Dempsey Lambert, Teri Casso and Corey Oregon (who wrote the resolution) voted to void a contract between the East Ascension Drainage District #1 and the Ascension Parish President.

Following the vote, Cointment questioned how the council was able to make the decision legally.

He said, he is not ruling out a legal battle.

The drainage board approved the former DPW Director, William Roux as interim CEO of drainage.
