Ascension Parish Schools continue installing turf surfaces on high school football fields

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Ascension Parish Public Schools have continued installing artificial turf surfaces in high school stadiums for the 2021 graduation ceremonies despite rain delays and a category 4 hurricane.

Ascension Parish Schools said that the turf fields are expected to be done before the end of football season if there are no more weather delays or unforeseen disasters.

Before Hurricane Ida impacted Louisiana in August, one out of four turf projects was complete at Dutchtown High School. Ascension Parish Schools said that Griffin Field’s project was completed earlier because there was no extensive drainage work at the three fields.

Due to the hurricane, construction crews evacuated and could not return due to the high demand for lodging for linemen and emergency responders.

Griffin Field has been hosting home games for high schools around Ascension Parish. East Ascension High School plays at home on Thursday nights, Dutchtown High School on Friday nights, and St. Amant High School on Saturday nights. Donaldsonville High School has been playing home games in Plaquemine, La.
