Ascension Parish woman creates alternative to trick-or-treating during COVID-19

Lindsey Rome and her two-year-old daughter, Andy, love Halloween. Their favorite part is trick-or-treating. Because of the coronavirus, instead of going door to door collecting candy from neighbors, they’ve found a safer way to celebrate.

“It’s something that’s good for the whole family to do,” Rome said.

In Ascension Parish, Landyn Leblanc recently created “Boo your yard.” It’s a way for parents to bring the Halloween fun to their own yards so their kids won’t feel the need to go to someone else’s.

“With everything going on and being locked in the house I just figured it’d be nice for them to have something to do,” Leblanc said.

The set up is similar to an easter egg hunt. Leblanc charges parents to decorate their yards with candy and Halloween decorations. When Halloween morning comes around, they’ll be surprised with a spooky scavenger hunt.

“This is a way for parents to turn a potentially bad situation into a good situation for the kids,” Leblanc said. “Their kids will still have fun on Halloween because they look forward to it all year… they’ll still get to have all of their candy and fun.

Also, the kids won’t be the ones getting treats, parents can also join in on the fun.

“I have an option to booze your yard for the parents where I was going to put alcohol in the yard,” Leblanc said.

Ascension Parish officials say they’ll make an official announcement mid-October regarding the holiday and if residents will be allowed to trick or treat. For many families like Rome’s, they say they’re putting safety first and already have their minds made up.

Leblanc says shes also offering her services to families in Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish. If you would like to boo your yard, contact Leblanc at
