DONALDSONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the shooting that happened near the Donaldsonville High School homecoming game against Patterson High School on Friday, Oct. 27.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the corner of Clay Street and Lee Street around 8:30 p.m. and found two males suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies also saw a man running away from the scene and took him into custody.

APSO said the victims were taken to the hospital and Tyree Parker, 21, died due to his injuries. The second victim has life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Malik Fowler, 21, was charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, simple criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.

The Ascension Parish School Board said in a statement Friday that the incident did not take place inside the stadium.

“We prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and community and are closely monitoring the situation along with the APSO. Our thoughts and support are with everyone affected by this incident,” the school board said.
