PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of hurting a woman before carjacking her was arrested over the weekend after a short police chase.
The suspect, Brent Chambliss, 53, of Gonzales reportedly crashed the car during the chase.
Deputies responded to a reported carjacking at Subway on Hwy 42 in Prairieville at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. The victim was found by deputies with “visible head injuries,” APSO said. She told deputies that the suspect, Brent Chambliss, 53, of Gonzales, forcibly took her out of her car after hitting her head with a handgun.
The stolen car was found two miles away from the scene before a short police chase started. The suspect crashed into a tree, investigators said.
Chambliss was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail early morning on Saturday, Oct. 14. He was charged with carjacking, aggravated flight of an officer, aggravated battery, reckless operation, simple criminal damage to property, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce.
His bond was set at $350,000.
