GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana State Police are investigating a head-on collision that killed an unborn child and injured the drivers in Ascension Parish.

According to LSP, around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oc.t 18, state troopers were called to a two-vehicle crash on LA 429 east of Roddy Road in Ascension Parish.

An investigation determined that a Mitsubishi SUV was eastbound on LA 429, while a Chevrolet Blazer was headed west. The driver of the Mitsubishi crossed the center line and crashed head-on with the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was seven months pregnant and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was taken to a local hospital, and medical staff determined the unborn child had died. The driver of the Chevrolet also was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to police.

This is an ongoing investigation. A toxicology sample from the driver of the Mitsubishi was obtained.
