Ascension Public Schools announces reopening dates for remaining schools

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Ascension Public Schools announces power restoration to all schools and plans for six schools to return to in-person learning.

Schools to return to in-person learning:

  • East Ascension High School is to open for in-person learning on Friday, Sept. 10.
  • Donaldsonville High, Gonzales Middle, Lowery Elementary and Lowery Middle schools to continue remote learning on Friday and scheduled to return to in-person learning on Monday, Sept. 13.
  • Sorrento Primary School is to continue remote learning. Officials said they are working with experts to address moisture and mold issues.

Ascension Public Schools reported a 90% attendance rate on Thursday.

School officials said they will continue to offer hot meals in their drive-thru pickup program for children ages 0-18 on Friday, Sept. 10. Pickup will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Donaldsonville Primary and Sorrento Primary schools.

On Friday, in-person learning at school will have a relaxed dress code and one-hour late arrival. Regular operating hours and dress code requirements will return on Monday, Sept. 13.

“We will continue to work with families who have challenges and obstacles due to Hurricane Ida,” said Superintendent David Alexander. “If you have not done so already, please contact your principal for details about how we will work with you.”
