PIERRE PART, La (BRPROUD) – Assumption Parish Sheriff Office announced the arrest of a Tennessee man that was found with drugs after a traffic stop in Pierre Part that occurred Thursday, Oct. 7.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said that a uniformed patrol deputy witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic violation near La Hwy 70 and Teddy St. and initiated a stop. The deputy made contact with James E. Pope. the driver, and conducted an interview. Falcon said that the deputy smelled an odor of suspected marijuana coming from the vehicle and also noticed a holstered firearm inside the vehicle.
An additional investigation was warranted and a search of Pope’s vehicle revealed suspected marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia, and a large caliber handgun.
Pope was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, possession of marijuana and driving on roadway laned for traffic.
Pope is currently incarcerated and is pending a bond hearing. Pope is a 36-year-old from 105 East Songer St in Waynesboro, Tennessee.
