18-year-old arrested in New Orleans for Eaton St. fatal shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Marshals arrested 18-year-old Lijames Powell on Dec. 7 in New Orleans for his involvement in the shooting death of Kentrell Payton.

Powell was extradited back to Baton Rouge and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for second-degree murder.


BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department has identified a suspect in connection to a deadly shooting on Eaton Street.

Police said Lijames Powell, 18, is wanted on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

On Nov. 30, 27-year-old Kentrell Payton was shot and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

BRPD said the investigation remains ongoing
