BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Donovan Lewis, 26, of Baker, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday night.
The deadly crash took place at the intersection of Bluebonnet Blvd. and Nicholson Dr.
The investigation started around 11 p.m. and according to the Louisiana State Police, “Lewis was traveling westbound on Bluebonnet Blvd. in a 2017 Nissan Versa.”
At some point, Lewis went through the intersection at Nicholson Dr. and careened off the roadway.
The 2017 Nissan Versa burst into flames after hitting a tree located off of the road.
The Baker resident died at the scene.
LSP says, “due to the severity of the fire, seatbelt usage is unknown at this time.”
Toxicology results for Lewis are forthcoming and during the holidays, the Louisiana State Police would like to share this message:
The difficult assignment of death notification continues to be one of the hardest elements of the Law Enforcement profession. Notification is even more difficult when Troopers know that the outcome was preventable. With the holiday season upon us, please take a moment to put the safety of you and your loved ones ahead of everything else. Aside from sound decisions behind the wheel, speak to your family and friends about the consequences of impaired driving. Remind them that putting on a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Speak to them about the dangers of distracted driving. The conversation you have today could be the difference tomorrow.
