BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- The BamFam Foundation hosted the First Down Ride Along Program with former LSU and NFL player Lavar Edwards.

The event was held at the Madison Prep Academy on Nov. 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The BamFam foundation released this statement in a press release:

“This free social justice program is designed to help bridge the gap between the local community and their Police Department through a curriculum-based Q&A and sports clinic for at risk or underserved youth with the help of a professional athlete. For this program BamFam Foundation partners with a professional athlete, local law enforcement officers and local schools/community centers. The athlete then drives the officer around the community they patrol and have an open conversation about the needs of that community. Together they then host a sports clinic and curriculum based Q/A session at a local school or community center with at risk youth and bring a positive experience for the youth to interact with the law enforcement officers in their community.

BamFam Foundation aims to foster positive relationships/experiences and productive citizens by engaging youth in dynamic sport related community programs and events by working in partnership with, professional athletes, counselors, teachers, law enforcement, military, first responders and other community-based organizations!“.
