BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Four people in the capital area are currently without a home due to the work of an arsonist, authorities say.

The incident occurred Saturday, October 1 shortly before 10 p.m. within the 2200 block of General Beauregard Avenue, which is in a residential area off Gardere Lane.

First responders with St. George Fire were called to the scene. Upon arriving, they reported finding flames creeping up the side of the house and spreading to the home’s attic.

Firefighters jumped into action and extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes of their arrival.

St. George says the incident did not result in any injuries, but the home is not livable at this time and its four occupants are currently displaced.

Firefighters were “Able to salvage parts of the home,” St. George says.

Reconstruction may be possible, but in the meantime, the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

According to investigators, someone intentionally set the home on fire and as of Sunday, detectives are still working to locate the individual(s) responsible.
