BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — A Baton Rouge maid service offers free house cleanings for people battling cancer.
The CEO of Guarantee Maid Services Lauren Folks Adams said her mother founded the company in 1983. Adams is now a partner of Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit that provides free house cleaning for people undergoing treatment for cancer. It was launched more than a decade ago in Dallas-Fort Worth, and now has more than 1,200 maid service partners in the U.S. and Canada.
After seeing the difficulties that several family members experienced while battling cancer, Adam’s mother decided to partner with Cleaning For A Reason to give back to the Baton Rouge community.
Sherry Chenevert, a patient of the nonprofit, was diagnosed with stage 4 low grade lymphoma in Nov. 2018. She underwent treatment during the first seven months of 2019. She said the treatment left her exhausted, too tired to clean the house.
On Mother’s Day, Chenevert’s three adult children provided the gift of a house-cleaning from Guarantee Maid Services. During a cleaning, one of the workers noticed a calendar that listed Chenevert’s upcoming treatments. The worker suggested that she sign up with Cleaning For A Reason to get additional free house cleanings.
Sherry is now a big advocate for Guarantee Maid Services and for Cleaning For A Reason. Thankfully, she is currently cancer free.
