BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Baton Rouge Police Department (BRFD) responded to a house fire on the 4000 block of Hammond Street on Friday.

The single-family residence had heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. BRFD responded to the scene to find four occupants outside and uninjured. BRFD entered the home and put out the fire in a bedroom. The rest of the house has heavy smoke damage.

Fire investigators were called and were told that smoke was seen coming from the vents. The occupants went outside and called 911. BRFD determined the fire was caused by a material that combusted close to the heating duct. The cause of the fire was also determined to be an accident.

According to BRFD, The Red Cross was called to help the eight people who were living in the home. Baton Rouge Police Department, Entergy, and emergency services were also at the scene.
