BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Baton Rouge General has renovated its Regional Burn Center — the only verified burn center in the area.
This burn center treats over 4,000 patients annually — and not just in Louisiana. It services individuals all over the Gulf Coast.
Renovations to the Regional Burn Center include state-of-the-art inpatient suites, more beds, a rooftop therapy garden, and a playroom for pediatric patients. Updates were also made to the outpatient rehab gym and treatment center.
“Burn care is incredibly complex, beginning at the time of injury and lasting through treatment, recovery and ongoing survivorship, like support groups and our summer camp for pediatric burn survivors,” said Dr. Tracee Short, burn surgeon and medical director of BRG’s Regional Burn Center. “While the majority of our patients are adults, about 800 children are burned and treated at BRG each year. And some of them are in the hospital a long time – 45 days is not unheard of.”
The Regional Burn Center is no stranger to clinical research. The center was one of 10 centers in the nation to be a part of a trial study of StrataGraft which “takes a sheet of living skin designed to replace a patient’s skin if injured,” according to a news release from BRG.
BRG is hosting a ribbon-cutting on July 15 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the newest renovations.
