PRAIRIEVILLE, La (BRPROUD) – Baton Rouge General (BRG) is hosting a men’s screening at its Ascension hospital to encourage men ages 30 to 50 to take a more proactive approach to their health.
There are many reasons why men in this age group are reluctant to take care of their health. A common one is something called ‘superhero syndrome.’ Many men believe they should be strong enough to handle things on their own, or they may think that seeing a doctor is a sign of weakness and that their condition will improve by itself.
“We know that men tend to delay seeking healthcare and ignore their symptoms, so just thinking and talking about their health is a huge first step for a lot of men,” said Dr. Vincent Nguyen, a family medicine physician at BRG Ascension. “Many men 40 and under assume they are healthy, not considering they could have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, which are both risk factors for heart disease and stroke if they’re not under control.”
This event gives attendees the chance to check in on their health by taking part in several health screenings like:
- Cholesterol, Glucose, and Blood Pressure Test
- Grip Strength and Balance Assessment
- Body Fat % Scale and Waist Circumference Check
- Thermal imaging and ankle-brachial (ABI) screenings with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South
- Eye assessments with Williamson Eye Center
- Sleep assessments with BRG’s Sleep Center
After, you’ll have a one-on-one consultation with a BRG provider to discuss their results.
Registration is required before the screening event and typically costs $10 but if you use the offer code “BRPROUD” registration is free! There’s no additional charge for the screenings, and to sweeten the deal, there will also be giveaways and door prizes!
