BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says a suspect wanted for the February murder of a man on Reiger Road is now in custody.
According to an affidavit, on Feb. 12 21-year-old James Douglas got into an argument with a man at a motel.
Police say the victim intervened to prevent the argument from escalating and that’s when the suspect turned his attention to the victim.
A witness told the police the suspect said he would make the victim “pay for this” and was going to get his gun.
Police say the suspect then armed himself and began walking around the motel shouting the victim’s name. The suspect then walked up to the victim, shot him multiple times and fled the scene, according to an affidavit.
The victim was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police say they spoke to multiple witnesses who claimed to know the suspect and viewed surveillance footage which corroborated their statements.
The suspect was booked in West Baton Rouge this week and later transported to EBR.
