GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Ascension Parish that killed a 52-year-old man from Baton Rouge.

Troopers responded to a crash on La Hwy 621 west of La Hwy 44 in Ascension Parish around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Through an investigation, Troopers learned that 52-year-old Bobby Boyd was traveling west on Hwy 621 in a 2013 Nissan Murano when he ran off the roadway and hit a culvert. The reason why Boyd went off the roadway is still under investigation.

Police say Boyd was wearing his seatbelt but his injuries were fatal. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers took a toxicology sample as part of the investigation. Police say drivers should always be aware of their surroundings and obey posted traffic control signs.
