The Baton Rouge Metro Airport has been awarded a $15 million dollar grant for airport improvements by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Congressman Garret Graves announced the nearly $50 million total project received partial funding through the FAA’s airport improvement program.
Majority of the money will go towards shifting a portion of Plank Road to better establish a standard runway protection area and to improve safety measures.
“These haven’t been a problem for months or years. In many cases these are decades old problems. It’s really exciting to be able to work together and be able to check this one off the list and move on to the next one” said Congressman Garret Graves
Baton Rouge received the second largest award in the country which Congressman Graves says is a big win.
“Having this extra capacity in Baton Rouge really is something that those other airports are going to view in a positive light and should help our efforts to land additional flights out of Baton Rouge airports giving more options to people” Graves said.
