BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The mother arrested in the death of her two-year-old who died of a drug overdose was charged with murder by an East Baton Rouge Parish jury Thursday.

Whitney Ard, who faced accusations of negligent homicide in the death of her child Mitchell Robinson, pled not guilty to drugs and weapons charges in a separate case on Aug. 9. Robinson is believed to have digested pills left lying around before he was declared dead on Sunday, June 26, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO).

Ard was arrested by EBRSO on Aug. 2 and has been formally charged with second-degree murder, according to official arrest documents.
