BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department has launched an online crime trends dashboard as part of what police say is its commitment to transparency.
The dashboard, which can be seen at brla.gov/crimestats, shows data on various crimes in the Baton Rouge area, including burglaries and robberies, thefts, homicides and more. The police department says other categories on the dashboard include:
- Alarm
- Assault/battery
- Disturbance
- Mental Health
- Overdose
- Traffic
- Vehicle Theft
- Felony Arrests
- Firearms Seized
“This new public dashboard gives our residents an up-to-date summary of calls for services in several categories, equipping our citizens with the knowledge and awareness they need to understand this critical component of law enforcement,” said BRPD Chief Murphy Paul.
Specifically, the crime dashboard shows month-to-date, year-to-date, previous year-to-date and year-over-year percent change across all categories, BRPD said.
“We know that public safety is both comprehensive and complex – which is why we analyze and incorporate data like this into all actions we take to keep our community safe,” said Chief Paul.
Anyone can use the dashboard to find up-to-date statistics for all 911 calls for service, which the police department said will be updated daily. However, categories for actual homicides, felony arrests and firearms seized will be updated on a weekly basis.
“We are continuing to build a culture of transparency and accountability in the department, our community now has access to daily crime data within the city limits of Baton Rouge,” said Chief Paul. “Our citizens deserve factual information.”
