BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA/WGMB) — Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach is asking the community to help create Valentine cards for military servicemen and women overseas. Leaders with BRSO want to encourage community centers, day care centers, Sunday school classes and whomever else is ‘feeling creative’ this season to participate.

BRSO leaders request that all Valentine cards be dropped off at Mooyah Shakes and Burgers, 6555 Siegen Lane or mailed to:

BRSO leaders request that all Valentine cards be sent to them by Jan. 29. The cards will be included in a bulk care package mailing scheduled for shipment on Feb.1.

Participants may make their own Valentine cards or download and make unlimited copies of the official BRSO coloring sheet.

BRSO is also asking the community to donate non-perishable items for the February care packages. Suggested items include:

  • Valentine candy and snack cakes
  • protein bars or granola bars,
  • beef jerkey,
  • peanuts and/or pretzels,
  • boxes of raisins,
  • pudding,
  • Ramen noodles,
  • trail mix,
  • cheese crackers and peanut butter crackers,
  • dried fruit packets,
  • bubble gum,
  • powdered drink mixes (like Kool-Aid or Country Time lemonade),
  • decks of cards or other miniature games.  

Items may be dropped off at any of the following locations.

  • Holmes Building Materials, 1102 Florida Ave., SE, Denham Springs.
