BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Arrest documents showed that three people raided a dead man’s home in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the 2000 block of Carter Avenue before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 where a man, James Greer, 45, was found unresponsive in a bedroom by his father.

Through the investigation, it was found that several items in Greer’s house were missing, including clothing, firearms and other items, according to the arrest warrant.

Police identified the suspects as Elizabeth Rios, 21, of Denham Springs, Gainer Fleming, 38, of Baton Rouge and Kurtis Heard, 29, of Baker.

Rios told investigators that on Tuesday, Aug. 8, she and her boyfriend, Fleming, met Greer on North Harrell’s Ferry Road. Greer asked if Rios was free that night, detectives said. According to the warrant, Rios and Fleming got into the back seat of Greer’s vehicle and went to Greer’s house. Heard was also reportedly in the car.

Once they got to the house, Fleming asked for money from Greer for Rios’ company, police documents said. Rios told officers that Greer gave Fleming a check for $300 before they went to his bedroom.

Rios told investigators that she placed fentanyl on the TV stand and snorted half of it. According to the affidavit, Greer pulled out a small bag which Rios thought was cocaine. Police said Greer had passed out on Rios’ shoulder and no one made an attempt to call emergency medical services.

Items reportedly taken from Greer’s house included three guns, laptops and a car.

Rios and Fleming were charged with failure to seek assistance, simple burglary, theft of a firearm, theft and theft of a motor vehicle.

Heard was charged with failure to seek assistance, simple burglary, theft of a firearm, theft, theft of a motor vehicle and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
