BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A traffic stop by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office in the 5000 block of Plank Road ended with Jayden Williams, 19, of Baton Rouge behind bars.
Deputies initiated the stop on Tuesday, Sept. 5 after seeing that Williams did not have a seat belt on. While interacting with Williams, one of the deputies could smell what they suspected was marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The Baton Rouge man said he “did not smoke marijuana and the vehicle was for his grandmother,” according to the affidavit. A search of Williams uncovered $760 in cash. He was escorted to the back of an EBRSO vehicle. Deputies then searched the vehicle and found these items:
- blue and orange “Cookies” bag
- 37.5 grams of suspected marijuana in two baggies
- clear plastic baggies
- suspected marijuana residue on a digital scale
- suspected marijuana cigar
- firearm magazine
- Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun
- .40 caliber ammunition
Williams said “he purchases the marijuana for his family,” according to the affidavit. He also said that the gun was bought for $400 “off the streets.” The Baton Rouge man was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
He was charged with illegal carrying of weapons, seat belt violation, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute schedule I drugs.
Williams bonded out of jail on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
