BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man is behind bars in connection to a carjacking that happened in 2021.
An investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department led to Leonard St. Cyr, 22, of Baton Rouge being charged in this case. Officers responded to the 1700 block of Florida Street around 8:25 p.m. on January 19, 2021, and spoke with the victim.
The man told investigators that he gave a dollar to an unidentified person at a gas station in the 1300 block of Florida Street. He then gave the man a ride in his vehicle and let him to use his cell phone, according to the affidavit.
They stopped in the 1300 block of Convention Street where a man walked up to the car with a black handgun, pointing it at the victim, before getting in the car.
“As the suspect was sitting in the back seat of the victim’s car, the suspect struck the victim in the head several times with the handgun and told the victim to drive,” police documents said.
The victim reportedly drove around with both men in the car. Police said both were demanding money and the victim’s phone until the victim stopped driving and ran away.
St. Cyr was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday, Oct. 16 and charged with armed robbery, simple kidnapping, drugs – schedule I, illegal carrying weapons with CDS and possession of stolen firearm.
As of the publishing of this article, no bond has been set for St. Cyr.
