BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Hamid Ghassemi, 72, has been sentenced to life in prison. He was convicted last month of hiring three men to kill his ex-wife and son.

The first-degree murder verdict was unanimous.

Son Hamed Ghassemi said after the verdict that he “can actually feel a weight coming off my shoulders.”

Hamed gave emotional testimony during the trial. The jury also heard testimony from Daniel Richter. Richter along with Tyler Ashpaugh and Skyler Williams were accused of taking $10,000 to kill Hamid’s ex-wife and son.

According to court records, Richter and Williams both pled guilty to manslaughter. Ashpaugh died while serving time in the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

Hamid has 30 days to appeal his sentence.
