BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Deputy Secretary, Tanya Bradsher, stopped by the capital city to host a student veteran roundtable at Southern University on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, Bradsher is the first woman to hold the position, the 10th deputy secretary of the federal Veterans Affairs, and the highest-ranked woman in the division’s history.

In addition to her current service, Bradsher served 20 years in the U.S. Army, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Veterans.

Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland and staff gathered for Wednesday’s roundtable on Southern University’s campus. Strickland and his staff also hosted other roundtables across the state including at LSU, Grambling, Fletcher Technical Community College and others.

According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, Southern is one of 32 universities in the state to be operated by an LDVA LaVetCorps navigator.

According to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, the LDVA LaVet Corps strives to serve over 10,000 student veterans and provide a place where they can have an opportunity with other veterans.
