BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Gov. John Bel Edwards has officially proclaimed the month of October as Filipino-American History Month in the state of Louisiana. To celebrate the Filipino American Association of Baton Rouge is inviting the community to a fundraiser gala for an evening at the Old Governor’s Mansion.
Attendees will celebrate Filipino-American History Month with a night of cultural festivities, food, and entertainment. Organizers said you’ll experience the rich heritage of the Filipino-American community and support the efforts of the Filipino-American Association of Baton Rouge and the Philippine Louisiana Historical Society.
Dr. Randy Gonzales, an English professor and historian at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said it’s important to preserve Filipino culture in Louisiana and remind people of the impact Filipino history has had on the state of Louisiana playing a significant role in the seafood and dry shrimping industry.
