BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A large turnout is expected at the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair this year.

The state fair located on Airline Highway is making returns starting this Thursday.

“The lights come on, gates open, the people come in you hear the sounds from the midway,” Cliff Barton, chairman of GBRSF said.

New attractions are coming to the fair this year. Barton said people can see entertainment events like fire eating, straightjacket escaping, juggling, pumpkin carving and hot dog eating contests. He said it all goes toward a good cause.

Barton said over $4 million has been donated, and he’s excited about how the fair continues to pour back into the community.

“We take the funds, we turn them over to the foundation and that’s donated back to the community in the form of grants, scholarships and sponsorships,” he said.

He said the fair will open 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, and will run through Nov. 5.
