BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge group is hosting an event Monday morning about wrongful convictions.
October 2, 2023, is International Wrongful Conviction Day. Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the country and a high rate of wrongful convictions of innocent people.
Since 1989, 85 innocent people have been exonerated in Louisiana, according to criminal justice reform advocates. Eleven of those individuals were sentenced to death.
P.R.E.A.C.H. (Presenting Resources Effectively Applying Christlike Humbleness) is hosting an event about wrongful convictions called “We are the Change We Are Seeking” from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at the River Center Library in Baton Rouge.
