BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A Louisiana man was arrested in connection with an accident that took place on Airline Highway over the weekend.
The accident happened a little after 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 and it involved a motorcycle and a car. Lee Fontenette, 40, of New Iberia was accused of striking the motorcycle from behind, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown, according to the affidavit.
Police said the motorcycle driver was seriously hurt in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. Injuries included multiple facial and skull fractures and lacerations on the body and face, investigators said.
A member of the Baton Rouge Police Department said they could smell alcohol coming from Fontenette’s breath. The New Iberia man said he had four beers prior to getting behind the wheel. A breath sample showed a BAC of 0.149g%.
Fontenette was booked into and released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Sunday, June 4. He was charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless operation of a vehicle.
