BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome gave an update Thursday morning about the investigation into “Brave Cave.”

The “Brave Cave” is a facility tied to allegations of beatings, described as a “torture warehouse” in a lawsuit. One Baton Rouge police officer, Troy Lawrence Jr., resigned after Broome called for an investigation into the building’s use.

The building, which is used by Baton Rouge police as a narcotics processing center, will remain closed permanently, Broome said. She said the BRPD Street Crimes Unit has been terminated amid the investigation into the facility and that the police department has launched a criminal investigation into the unit.

When addressing Baton Rouge residents directly, Broome said, “We will handle this matter with transparency, accountability and fairness.”
