BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — It is always an exciting time when a student gets to walk across the stage to receive their diploma at the end of their college career. On Friday, Aug. 11, the LSU summer commencement took place and it was one for the record books.

The college handed out 1,039 degrees to students during Friday’s ceremony. According to school officials, it was the highest number of degrees awarded at any summer commencement at LSU. The prior record was set back in the summer of 2021 with 969 graduates.

“In addition to being our largest graduating class ever, we are graduating more women, African Americans and Hispanic students than any summer graduation class in LSU history,” said LSU President William F. Tate IV. “It is an honor for me to stand before you to celebrate your academic mastery.”

According to LSU, over 20 graduated with honors and one graduate received the University Medal, which is handed out for having the highest-undergraduate GPA in the graduating class.

Graduates received digital diplomas when they walked across the stage during Friday’s ceremony but printed degrees will be delivered to graduates, university officials said.
