BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There is plenty to be excited for as the Southern Jaguars will welcome Jackson State for their season opener, but tailgating will have limitations with the ongoing burn ban in the state.
Southern Athletics sited Louisiana Fire Marshals in an updated news release that, who said people can resume outdoor cooking with safety measures in place. According to state fire officials, this includes using contained cooking equipment like grills and smokers on a flame-resistant with a water source or a fire extinguisher nearby.
According to a release from the university, fans are asked to comply with the state fire marshal’s order to tailgate safely with no open flames for Saturday. This includes tailgating activities such as grilling, grill pits and fire pits.
Fans are encouraged to bring food to their tailgate areas and cook off campus. According to Southern, fans can bring generators, as long as they are elevated off the ground.
On Wednesday, it was also announced that LSU would not be allowing grilling for their home opener against Grambling.
