BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge was listed as one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. for pedestrians.

The National Highway Traffic Association (NHTSA) compiled data from 2018 through 2021 across over 200 cities in the U.S. According to the data, crossing the street is starting to become more dangerous in the United States. Over the past four years, there has been a 15.9% increase in pedestrian fatalities.

Baton Rouge is the 10th most dangerous city for pedestrians. Four out of the five top cities are located in the south. The capital city has seen a 6.1 average annual pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 residents, 13.5 average annual pedestrian fatalities, a 137.5% increase over a four-year change in pedestrian fatalities, and 25.6% pedestrian fatalities as a percentage of all traffic accidents, according to NHTSA.
