BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s ‘Rollin’ on the Mississippi River MPAC (Music, Performance, Art, Community) Gala is back for another year. The event will be from 7-10 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center.
“Rollin’ on the Mississippi River is just an homage to the late Tina Turner,” said Pam Bordelon, Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s Director of Communications. “Like the Met Gala in New York City, which honors someone (usually from the fashion world) of note who has passed away that year, we are opting to recognize Tina Turner for our Met Gala-inspired MPAC Gala, which has been going on for quite a while.”
The annual event will be a fun-filled night for attendees. There will be live music by the Mixed Nuts, exhibits paying homage to the Met and more, according to the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
According to Bordelon, guests are encouraged to let the Met Gala and Tina Turner inspire their attire.
“There will be food and libation from area restaurants and other fun that we’re still nailing down,” said Bordelon.
Last year, she said, their feature of Studio 54 featured live music, an area playing clips from popular ’70s shows and movies and karaoke.
“There will be similar fun things happening all over our building this go around, as well,” Bordelon said.
