BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Each year, Whealdon Estates senior living pays homage to veterans housed in their facility. This year’s luncheon celebration hosted over 30 veterans. Most over the age of 90 with over 40 years of experience in the Navy, Army, and Marines.

“They honor us every day by just being great residents and I’d like to give a little bit back to them,” said Julie Dureau, Whealdon Estates Management.

There was a wall painted in the dining area by a veteran that is now used to honor some of the many veterans in this facility. Some seniors tell me it’s a blessing to be able to still tell their stories.

A group of cadets made an appearance to salute the veterans and gifted them with a commemorative American flag.

Mayor Broome, Ms. Bea Gyimah of the America, My Oyster Association, were some of the guest speakers at the luncheon. Mr. Jonathan Jackson of ‘No Fear with Jonathan,’ also spoke at the event.
