BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Catholic High School is welcoming a new head football coach.
The 21st Head Coach at Catholic is David Simoneaux, Jr.

Simoneaux, Jr. is replacing Gabe Fertitta who recently left for Louisville.
The new head coach had this to say about the opportunity to coach at Catholic:
“I’m honored and humbled to become a part of this incredible school community,” Simoneaux says. “I’m looking forward to honoring the tradition here and continuing to elevate the legacy of the school’s thriving football program.”
Simoneaux, Jr. is heading to CHS after spending six years in the same position at Catholic High School Pointe Coupee.
“We received more than 100 applications from across the United States for the job. Among his football and sports peers in Louisiana and across the south, Simoneaux was our guy,” CHS Athletic Director J.P. Kelly explains. “Coach Simoneaux is known for his incredible ability to get the most out of his players and fellow coaches. We knew it was not going to be easy to replace Coach Fertitta, but Coach Simoneaux is going to be the perfect individual to lead our program going forward.”
Catholic is the defending Division 1 State Champion.
