Beware of Livingston Scam to steal your money

Local News

The Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office is warning citizens of a scam in attempt of stealing your hard earned dollars.

The following statement was released:

We received a credible report about an employee receiving a text message.
The text message NOTED that the the sender was the employee’s boss.
However, it was not sent from any of the boss’ known legit numbers.
The sender of the text asks the employee to purchase gift cards:
5 eBay or Amazon cards for $200 each.
After the purchase, the text sender says the employee would need to scratch off the back lining of each card to reveal PIN codes.
The sender said those PIN codes were needed ASAP.
The sender says the employee would be reimbursed.

Strange, right?

Thankfully, this potential victim did not follow the text request!  The potential victim instead called the actual boss, inquired about the strange text from an unknown number & asked about the gift card request.

What we learned:  Several employees of this same boss were targeted in the same way.  Fortunately, no one fell for this scam.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this matter…

In the meantime, don’t let the bad guys win:
