PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) – A bicyclist who was hit and killed in Iberville Parish around 4:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24 was identified by Louisiana State Police.

The crash victim was identified as Jeross Banks, 41, of Plaquemine. Investigators said Banks was riding his bicycle south on LA 1 when a 2012 Dodge Ram hit him from behind.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office said he was wearing dark clothes at the time of the accident. In a news release, Louisiana State Police said Banks was not wearing a helmet and his bike did not have lights. The driver was not hurt in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle pulled into a truck stop nearby and told deputies that he did not see the bicyclist before the accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Brett Stassi said the area where the deadly crash happened lacks lighting.
