Big rig carrying live chickens catches fire on I-80 in San Pablo

SAN PABLO, California – (NBC)(KGPE)(KSEE) – A Big rig hauling live chickens crashed and caught fire along Interstate 80 in San Pablo early Thursday morning.

According to the KRON4 the truck was owned by Pitman Farms just outside of Fresno.

The big rig was heading westbound when it veered from its lane and crashed into an overpass and collided with a car.

It caught fire killing at least a thousand chickens.

Emergency crews were able to rescue 50. They were later handed over to animal control.

No word yet if they will be euthanized. Both drivers are excepted to be okay.

The freeway was closed while the accident is under investigation.

No word on when it will reopen.
