Lawmakers vote to approve the decriminalization of possessing small amounts of marijuana.

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana House approved a bill that would bring the step closer to decriminalize the possession of marijuana.

The bill by Representative Cedric Glover would reduce punishment for people caught with 14 grams or less of marijuana to a $100 fine and no jail time.

Those in support said it would keep people using a small amount of marijuana from becoming felons and also put less people in prison.

The measure was supported across the aisle and now heads to the senate.

This vote comes as a bill to decriminalize and legalize marijuana is set to be debated on the Senate floor on Wednesday.
