Sheriff identifies body found in Mississippi River

UPDATE: The body found in the Mississippi River has been identified as 34-year-old Matthew Thomas, confirmed with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office. No foul play has been suspected at this time.

POINTE COUPEE, La. (BRPROUD) – A body was found in the Mississippi River wedged in between two barges, according to Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said they were notified by the Coast Guard over the weekend.

The body remains unidentified at this time. An autopsy will take place on Wednesday, according to Sheriff René Thibodeaux.
