BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge attorneys are now offering free legal services to people impacted by Louisiana’s abortion laws.
While the laws are on hold due to a stay coming through in a New Orleans court, the lawyers say people are scared. The group is with the Fair Fight Initiative and says their services, could help doctors, pregnant people, or district attorneys, who are charged under the law.
“We plan standing in the gap and to fight for women and those who believe in a woman’s right to choice. Whatever that looks like, we’re going to be there for it,” said Ronald Haley, a local attorney.
The group of lawyers says they plan to continue to challenge the law, agreeing with the New Orleans judge that the law is vague.
Attorney General Jeff Landry says he is fully prepared to defend the state’s laws in court.
