BR Soldier Outreach accepting Halloween candy donations

BATON ROUGE, La. (FOX 44) (LOCAL 33) The holidays are joyful for most, but can be difficult for others who are far from home.

Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach is accepting Halloween candy donations to help bring comfort to soldiers overseas.

This weekend 267 stockings were stuffed with candy and other goods to send off. 130 of them were for local Marine Corps Sargent Chandler Venable stationed in Qatar.

Since the beginning of 2008, CEO Christy Smith said she has received hundreds of emails and letters from local soldiers thanking them for sending a little piece of home.

“It’s awesome to hear people tell us stories of how it’s awesome to receive something from home when they are away from their family,” Smith said.

With the holiday season around the corner, Smith’s busy time to give is just beginning.

“For as much sacrifice our men and women are making overseas it’s the least we can do here,” Smith said.
