BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Masks will now be required for indoor BREC facilities and city-parish buildings as COVID-19 cases rise.

BREC will reinstate the mask requirement for all indoor facilities on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

“As cases and hospitalizations are on the rise with this latest surge of the COVID-19 virus, I see no other option than to go back to the mask requirement because of the apparent ease of transmission of the omicron variant, even in fully vaccinated individuals,” BREC Superintendent Corey K. Wilson said.

Outdoor facilities will operate normally. Find events that BREC is scheduled to host here.

“BREC leadership will closely monitor the situation and lift the mask mandate as soon as it is safe to do so,” Wilson said.

Masks are also required in city-parish buildings, according to a spokesperson from the mayor-president’s office.
