BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – BREC is to celebrate the newest improvements to the Forest Community Park’s Recreation Center in a ribbon cutting.
The ceremony is taking place on Tuesday, June 29 at 5 p.m. with BREC’s Superintendent Corey K. Wilson, Councilwoman Amoroso, BREC commissioners, staff and more.
The celebration focuses on the expansion of the new Recreation Center. New improvements include three new meetings rooms, storage rooms and larger restrooms. Additionally, new features have been included, such as a new entry way and a lined rubber gym floor for basketball, volleyball and pickleball games. The center will be cooler in the hot summer weather with a newly upgraded HVAC system.
The Recreation Center began construction in July 2016 before it was flooder after the great flood in August 2016. The construction project was delayed and more projects were added to repair flood damage.
Funding for the Recreation Center derived from the Imagine Your Parks 2 and FEMA aid.
Originally, the construction projects were completed in the fourth quarter of 2019 and the park hosted a soft opening. Now that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, BREC can celebrate the Recreation Center’s opening with the public.
