BRFD: House on West Johnson St. burns for the second time this week

The Baton Rouge Fire Department arrived at 425 W. Johnson St. a little before 4:50 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. 

BRFD said, “firefighters arrived on scene to find the house fully engulfed in flames.”

This is the second time this week that the Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the vacant house. 

It took firefighters around 20 minutes to put the fire out.

Seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder were used to extinguish the fire.

The vacant home suffered $50,000 in damages and is considered a total loss. 

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, “the cause of this vacant house fire is arson.”

BRPD and EMS assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene of the fire.


A fire broke out in the 400 block of West Johnson St. on Thursday morning. 

Firefighters are on scene and fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. 

Part of Highland Rd. is shut down due to the emergency response.
