BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One person has been displaced after a townhouse fire on Sharlo Avenue.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the townhouse fire on Thursday evening at around 5:35 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from a propane tank connected to a grill placed close to the townhome, according to BRFD. The grill and tank were moved away from the residence and the fire was extinguished.
Firefighters then went inside the home to search for fire inside, according to BRFD. They found the fire in a void space in the attic. Crews were able to get the fire in this portion of the home under control.
According to BRFD, the attic sustained fire damage while the rest of the townhome sustained smoke and water damage.
BRFD investigators deemed the cause of the fire as accidental.
BRFD said firefighters heard two dogs barking in the attached townhome. Smoke was beginning to fill the residence and crews went inside to bring the dogs outside. The dogs were reunited with their owners later, according to BRFD.
