BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – As the City of Baton Rouge prepares to celebrate the Fourth of July, the police have given out important reminders to those who live within the parish.

The police want to remind citizens that fireworks are illegal in the parish and the city. If going downtown for the fireworks show, the police say to arrive early. Drivers should utilize all available routes downtown. This includes North Street, Laurel Street, Florida Boulevard, North Boulevard, Government Street, and Convention Street.

Ice chests, BBQ pits, tents, and pets are not allowed on the festival grounds.

BRPD will enforce the law if anyone is found firing a gun. Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers on the road.

River Road will be closed in the downtown area for vendors and pedestrian traffic.
